What I wanna know is why is there an artificial horizon where the turn coordinator normally is?

It's an electric AI which can replace a failed turn coordinator.

Figures. I've never flown a plane with one of those, I was always trained to use the "triangle of agreement" during gyro failures. Airspeed, altimeter, and magnetic compass.

Couple of things - 1. what's that stratus thing? 2. how much does it cost to get a pilot's license? If I win the lottery, its one of the first things I'm gonna sign up for. Apart from a scuba certification :)

Stratus is a wireless weather receiver. A pilot's license can be had for as little as $2000 depending how how many hours it takes you and where you get your training.
